DFW Discovery Trail: A New Era for North Texas Connectivity

Spanning over 66 miles, the trail links Dallas and Fort Worth, enhancing regional mobility and recreation.

North Texas is on the brink of a transformative development with the DFW Discovery Trail, a 66-mile-long pedestrian and cycling pathway set to connect the vibrant cities of Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, and Grand Prairie.

Initiated in 2013, this ambitious project has seen significant progress. As of now, over 50 miles of the trail are complete and accessible to the public. The remaining segments are advancing steadily, with the entire trail expected to be operational by 2026.

In August 2022, the trail's identity was solidified when the public voted to name it the DFW Discovery Trail. This name, chosen over the alternative 'DFW Trinity Trail,' reflects the community's vision for a pathway that offers exploration and connection across the region.

Recent developments underscore the project's momentum. In August 2024, construction commenced on the CentrePort Trail, a crucial segment linking the Trinity Railway Express CentrePort Station in Fort Worth to Arlington's River Legacy Trail. This 12-foot-wide concrete path, equipped with modern amenities like 911 location markers and trail signage, is slated for completion by mid-2025.

Another significant addition is the planned connection between Fort Worth's Trinity Trail and Arlington's River Legacy Park trails. This segment, featuring a new bridge over the Trinity River, is projected to be completed by September 2025, further enhancing the trail's continuity.

The DFW Discovery Trail is more than just a recreational asset; it's a testament to regional collaboration and a commitment to sustainable transportation. By providing a continuous route through diverse landscapes—from urban centers to serene parks—the trail offers residents and visitors a unique way to experience North Texas.

As the project nears completion, anticipation builds for the myriad benefits it promises: improved air quality, reduced traffic congestion, and a boost to local economies through increased tourism and community events. The DFW Discovery Trail stands as a beacon of progress, symbolizing the region's dedication to connectivity, health, and environmental stewardship.
